How to make a mason jar base for a small flocked Christmas tree. A perfect DIY container to put your Christmas tree in.
Christmas decor can be expensive so I always like to find inexpensive ways to freshen up my decor. Today I am showing you how to take small cheap Christmas trees and make them look more substantial as part of your Christmas decor. I have been loving the idea of small trees in crocks or baskets but they get pricey quick so I decided to DIY my own.
Every month I join up with some of my favorite bloggers to share some mason jar crafts so make sure you stay until the end of this post to see what Christmas mason jar crafts they created.
Did you guys see my latest buffalo check tree?! Check it out here.
What you’ll need
Small Christmas Tree (target dollar spot or craft stores)
Wide mason jar
White chalk paint
Now I got my Christmas tree at Target but you can pretty much find them anywhere Christmas decor is sold. I liked the Target ones because they were flocked just like my tree in the living room.
What type of paint should I use on a mason jar?
Any time you are going to paint a mason jar chalk paint is always a great base. It doesn’t leave streaks and has a matte finish.
Another inexpensive decorating tip is whatever ribbon you use on your tree buy an extra roll. It’s a cheap way to tie in your decor by adding it to other elements in your room. This wide wired buffalo check ribbon is from Michaels. Once the paint is dry on the mason jar I added it around the mason jar. You can do this by tying it from behind or using hot glue. You could also make a cute bow in the front.
This was a quick and easy Christmas craft that helped bring buffalo check to other parts of my living room. Since these trees seem to be a bit on the sparse side I added some extra red berries to fill out the branches visually. This also helps to add a little more red to my decor.
Now I am not yet done decorating my Christmas tree. I am hand making a lot of my ornaments this year so you guys are getting a sneak peek. This is my new tree I ordered here. My last tree would no longer light up so I decided to get my dream tree.
