Have you heard of the Starbucks medicine ball? You may have not even seen this drink on the menu but it is my go to hot beverage when I am feeling sick. With temperatures dropping it seems like everyone is catching some sort cold or flu lately. One of my favorite natural remedies is the medicine ball drink at Starbucks.

This soothing cold buster tea is wonderful for your immune system. It is easier to make than you think for a fraction of the price! My Starbucks copycat recipe tastes just like the original Starbucks version you get from your favorite Starbucks baristas.

The best part is you can enjoy it in the comfort of your own home instead of driving to the coffee shop. Which honestly is the last thing you want to do when you’re feeling under the weather. Skip the line and skip the Starbucks prices by making it at home.

Benefits of Drinking a Medicine Ball

It has a number of health benefits and is packed full of vitamin c to help soothe all of your cold and flu symptoms. Now whether this is a placebo effect or it actually makes you feel better I am not sure. But mint tea is supposed to open up your nasal passage to help clear your sinuses. Honey is also a cough suppressant.

Next time you start to feel a scratchy throat or runny nose coming on grab your favorite mug and make this cup of hot tea for instant relief!

Not feeling well? Soup is always another great option. Check out this Portuguese Kale Soup, Turkey Noodle Soup and Sausage Tortellini Soup.

Starbucks Medicine Ball Ingredients

  • Lemonade – Don’t want to use lemonade? Try using a fresh squeezed lemon. If it’s too tart for your taste add a bit more water and honey.
  • Cold Water
  • Teavana Jade Citrus Mint Tea – A green tea blended with spearmint, lemon verbena and lemongrass.
  • Peach Herbal Tea – I prefer Teavana teas – specifically the Peach Tranquility Tea. It can be hard to find at times. Substitute it for any herbal peach tea
  • Honey – A great natural sweetener that also helps soothe the throat.
  • Lemon Slices – I love adding fresh slices for an extra burst of tart flavor.
  • Option add ins – Some people love adding a splash of mint for an extra flavor. This can be done with fresh mint, a drop of peppermint extract or a shot of peppermint syrup.

Love the look of these glass mugs? They are double wall insulated glass. They keep your beverage hot while your hands still remain cool. You can get them here.

How to Make a Starbucks Medicine Ball

Combine lemonade and water in a small saucepan, and bring to a boil over medium high heat. You can also combine into a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 2 minutes. Add the tea bags and let steep for 2-3 minutes before removing. Stir in the honey and add a slice of lemon or two and start to feel better!

I tend to almost always make this in the microwave.

How to Order a Medicine Ball at Starbucks

The Starbucks medicine ball is technically not on the menu it started out as a “secret menu” item that went viral. If you are going into a Starbucks or the drive thru you can simply ask the barista for a medicine ball. They are more than likely going to know what it is. If not you are going to ask for a “honey citrus mint tea”. This has recently been added to the menu but it is under a different name.
