Blogiversary and a Silhouette Gift Basket Giveaway

Blogiversary and a Silhouette Gift Basket Giveaway

Weekend Craft has turned one and what a year it has been! I feel like this has been a year of transformation and change. I originally had started this blog when my gradschool internship had ended and my freelance work was at a low. Naturally I started to be more crafty in my spare time. After a few craft shows I had been asked how I made things or what was my next project. Now in no way have I ever been a fabulous writer (grammar is not my thing and I struggle with spelling) (I also really like to put my thoughts in parenthesis' if you haven't noticed yet). My blog has never been about the writing but more about developing my voice and sharing projects with my friends and family. Never in my wildest dreams did I think others would follow along!

Back to School: Printable School Subject Labels and Silhouette Challenge

Back to School: Printable School Subject Labels and Silhouette Challenge

While I am not in school nor do I have any children that are I was a little stumped as to what to create. I thought back to prepping for back to school and even the first week of school and I remembered always covering all my books with my Mom or Dad with brown paper bags. Then I would go to town decorating them (no surprise there). Now even to this day my handwriting is atrocious. I would ask any one else (besides my brother who has even worse handwriting than me, sorry Jeff) to write the subject on the book cover before I decorated it.

March Silhouette Challenge– Wedding Shower Gift Heart Map

March Silhouette Challenge– Wedding Shower Gift Heart Map

It's that time again! Time for the Silhouette Challenge! This month's theme is paper. Make sure you stick around until the end to see 43 other inspirational projects.

Now choosing a project to complete for this challenge was actually kind of hard. With paper the options are just endless. Recently I used an old atlas to make cards for a cardswap. When I was choosing pages from the map book I had set aside Massachusetts and Texas knowing that I wanted to do something with them for an upcoming wedding. You see one of my best friends is getting married in July she is from Mass and her fiance is from Texas. With their relationship initially being long distance their states are a significant part of their story.

Tip Tuesday– Glue

Tip Tuesday– Glue

I am constantly on the search for glue either I have run out or I have the wrong glue for the project I am working on.  Did I mention this happens constantly?! I think I could drive to Michael's with my eyes closed.

There are just sometimes you try to use a glue stick and even though it says it dries clear, it dries like shown above. Which is frustrating when you sit down to craft for a set period of time but you don't have the correct supplies needed for the project.

February Silhouette Fabric Challenge– Freezer Paper Stenciled Tote Bags

February Silhouette Fabric Challenge– Freezer Paper Stenciled Tote Bags

It's that time again! Second Monday of the month and time for the Silhouette Challenge! This months theme is fabric. Read until the end and you will find 44 of my blogger friends and their projects!

Now hearing this months theme was intimidating. I am a crafter but I am not a sewer. It is actually on my list of something to learn but later... Let's say 2015. I have seen so many of my favorite bloggers and crafting friends (Thinking Closet and TitiCrafty) using freezer paper as stencils. So I decided to give it a try with some tote bags I had bought at Joann's on sale.

How to turn a window shutter into a mail organizer

How to turn a window shutter into a mail organizer

It's that time again!  Time to join up with over 30 bloggers for the Silhouette Challenge, to share projects we have been working on this past month. I am proud to commit to a challenge a month for 2014. Each month will revolve around a different theme and January just happens to be organization. Which also happens to be one of my New Years Resolutions, since half my life is sitting in boxes in my garage since I moved, organization has been something that was missing for most of 2013. This is the year that those boxes will come out of storage, the year that I will create a studio space to craft and the year to blog. So make sure you stay tuned and read to the end of this post to see some great projects from some of the best Silhouette bloggers out there.

Personalized Wooden Disc Ornaments

Personalized Wooden Disc Ornaments

With Christmas being over I can finally show off some of the gifts I gave to my family,  I didn't want them peaking. I have known for awhile that I wanted to work with wooden discs but wasn't sure what I exactly wanted to do with the wood. I found a Prairie Wood Sprite on etsy.  Linda was amazing to work with. She even shipping my discs same day and drilling holes for no extra charge.

Dismantling a Pallet

Dismantling a Pallet

With the excitement of the week being my Silhouette Cameo being delivered I started to do some prep work for future projects. I have always loved and admired signs I saw on crafters blogs or pinterest, especially salvaged looking signs. Now that I own a machine that can cut vinyl and create stencils I am excited to figure out to make these signs myself.

I was out back by the loading docks, for a company I frequently freelance for, and noticed a small pallet that had been sitting there for about a week ready to be put in the dumpster.
