My sunporch is one of my favorite places in my home to decorate. This year I decided to lean more traditional with a red and green Christmas tree. I was inspired by this beautiful plaid ribbon. To me there is nothing more quintessential Christmas than red, green and plaid.

Looking for some more Christmas inspiration? I decorate 3-5 Christmas trees every year. Some of my favorites are this years Elegant Christmas Tree, Teal Christmas Tree, Red Christmas Tree and my favorite this Green Christmas Tree.

Artificial Christmas Tree

I love artificial Christmas trees. In fact I have never had a real Christmas tree. This is a blue spruce artificial Christmas tree from King of Christmas. This is now my fourth tree from King of Christmas. I have to say their quality is great and you can usually find their trees on sale or an open box tree.

Are you thinking about getting an artificial tree? Make sure you check out my guide to buying an artificial Christmas tree.

Plaid Ribbon

This beautiful plaid ribbon was my inspiration for the entire tree. It was my first piece of Christmas decor I bought this year. I found it at Joann Fabrics. It’s a 4 inch wired ribbon with a cream base and the plaid is made out of red and green.

I love to add a beaded garland in between the ribbon. It helps give a beautiful layered look adding some depth to the tree. I used five strands of red bead garland on this tree.

Want to add ribbon to your tree but aren’t quite sure how? Here is how I add ribbon to my Christmas tree.

A mirrored star Christmas tree topper.

Mirrored Star Christmas Tree Topper

This mirrored star is one of my favorite tree toppers. Can I let you in on a little secret? It’s actually not a tree topper at all. This mirrored star is actually a wall hanging that I found at a local vintage shop years ago and modified it to become a tree topper. It’s one of my favorite Christmas decorations. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box when it comes to your Christmas decor!

Bird Ornaments

Growing up my parents always had two white doves on their Christmas tree and they were connected by a ring they both were carrying with their beaks. To me every tree I have at least one bird if not many. It’s just something that makes me nostalgic for that family tree.

This year I placed this beautiful cardinal ornament front and center on my tree. The red bird goes beautifully on the red and green Christmas tree.

How To Make Your Christmas Tree Look Fuller

Adding floral picks will help your Christmas tree look much fuller. Especially if it is an older tree that has lost some of it’s fullness. This also helps add some visual interest and dimension. I like using pine cones and red berries .

You can usually find these on sale at the craft store. What I love about floral picks is that you can use these year after year. I have had some of these for about 10 years.

Tree Collar

I love using a Christmas tree collar or basket. This galvanize tree collar I have had for probably about 5 years and it is beautiful but one solid piece. Being one piece makes it a bit difficult to store. But I found a similar one that is two pieces!

If you are looking for more Christmas tree collars or baskets. I’ve gathered up some of my favorites.

There is nothing that makes me happier than coming home from work and being greeted with this Christmas tree all lit up when I pull into my driveway. It has to be one of my favorite sights.

Sharing is caring!

  1. I love this tree a lot! It’s the essence of Christmas. That is the plaid our last years family PJ’s. Plus, I remember my Mother wearing box pleated skirt in this plaid.
