Patriotic Pinwheels

Red White and Blue Crafts

Today is such a special day because not only is it my birthday but we are celebrating America's birthday with over 90 bloggers! Now even though I feel old I've got nothing on America she is 211 years on me! Today is not only about me ;) but all so about Red, White and Blue food decor and crafts.

DIY July 4th Pinwheels

I have been obsessed with pinwheels ever since I made the Dr. Seuss pinwheels. So today lets make some patriotic pinwheels for your July 4th parties, your desk at work or even just as an accent on your mantle or kitchen table. These pinwheels are so easy they should only take you about 5 minutes. I even made them as a friend was over and she was shocked when I told her I only need about 15 minutes (photography included).

pinwheel ingredients

What you'll need

  • Scissors
  • Scrapbook Paper
  • Paper Straws
  • Push Pins
  • Holder (Target $1 section)
  • Glue Gun (optional)
cut scrapbook paper for pinwheels

Now when you are picking out your paper make sure to pick out scrapbook paper that is either double sided or the color comes through. This is 3 dimensional so you will be seeing both sides.

5x5 squares for pinwheels

Cut the paper into a 5inch x 5 inch square. You can use scissors or a paper cutter.

Using a pair of scissors cut from each corner of the square about halfway to the center.

How to make a pinwheel

Fold over every other corner to the center of the square. Now either glue each corner down with a hot glue gun or if you live a little on the edge just overlap each corner and take the push pin and push it threw the center of the pinwheel through each overlapping corner.

Line up the back of the pinwheel to your paper straw and push the tack through the straw.

How simple was that! It's an easy way to impress your family and friends and also a cheap alternatives to floral centerpieces.
