Learn how to cut leather with your Cricut Maker and how to make leather earrings.

I cannot tell you how many pairs of leather earrings I have almost spent a small fortune on. I decided why not try to make them myself. The Cricut Maker cuts leather and Cricut sells genuine leather sheets. This project took me less than 10 minutes from start to finish.

Projects tend to go faster when you have the right tools. Check out some of my favorite Cricut accessories and hand tools here.

So here is what you'll need

I also used

I started by using a tear drop shape I found on design space. I wanted a larger leather earring so I sized it and added a hole for the earring hook to clasp to. You can use the design space file here.

The Cricut genuine leather comes in 12x12 sheets. Using my self healing mat, acrylic ruler and rotary cutter I cut the leather to the size of the artboard in design space. Saving the rest of the leather for another project.

Now my mat is not the stickiest. Here is my tip for you. Using a brayer will extend the life of you mat. Roll it over the material you are cutting and it will help stick it evenly to your mat.

I cut my leather smooth side up. I also use the custom setting in design space to cut genuine leather. I was impressed with how many options there were for leather.

Now I went to my local craft store and picked up some earring hooks and the gold hoops. I added a gold hoop through the hole and then attached the earring hook to it. These were soft enough to do by hand but you can also use a pair of needle nose pliers.

I cannot believe how professional these look and it took less then 10 minutes. I know what everyone is getting as gifts this year.
