This summer I found this fun red vintage Tonka truck and designed the whole shelves around it. Now it seems that everywhere I turn this Christmas I am seeing a red vintage truck with a brush tree. I guess I am on trend.

I am also including different houses on every shelf from white ceramic, galvanized metal house and houses made out of chicken wire. I love mixing the finishes its almost a modern take of the Christmas village. I found the ceramic and galvanized houses at Target and the chicken wire house I picked up last year and spray painted them black.

My living room is decked out in buffalo check. I even have a buffalo check Christmas tree. I knew I wanted to incorporate buffalo check subtly on these shelves and I did that by bringing in theses buffalo check wood Christmas trees that I picked up at Joanns.

Back in July it was about 100 degrees and of course I was cooling off in the aisles of Hobby Lobby looking at Christmas decor. Because that’s the normal thing to do in a heat wave. Well I just couldn’t wait to buy this Merry Christmas sign because what if it was sold out in November. So I scooped it up and stored it in my basement until it was more of an appropriate time to pull it out.

When you have a different aesthetic from room to room I like to tie different elements in like buffalo check. I am also adding vintage books to each display. I picked up a few red books at an estate sale and also added in some green books from some local vintage shops. I was so happy to find a Charles Dickens book but you are going to have to wait until I share my full living room decor to see that.

What I love about my shelves is turning on all the tea lights. It gets dark so early now I love the glow and the flickering of the lights. Now one thing I always do to give dimension to my shelves is to add some greenery. I purchased this garland at Joann’s It had about 6 strands to it. I got out my wire clippers and was able to use the garland on every shelf, weaving it in and out of the houses and books. It’s just simple enough to give it dimension with out taking away from the decor.

Last year my entire shelves were decorated around my Rae Dunn Collection. This year I still wanted to incorporate them but just keep most of it on top of the chest. I have so much Rae Dunn in my kitchen that I wanted to make sure my shelves just complimented the rest of the kitchen.

This might just be my favorite part. Target had these metal barns well I turned it around and it fit my coca-cola truck perfectly. It’s like a little garage. Details like this are my favorite part of decorating.
