A buffalo check plaid Christmas tree.

This is the third Christmas I have had two Christmas trees. Growing up I always had a dream of having more than one Christmas tree that just seemed so fancy. So when I bought my house and it had a sunporch I immediately knew I could have my second Christmas tree. This year I decorated the tree in buffalo check. I know, I know we are not surprised. I LOVE buffalo check. However I did switch it up a bit by doing something I have never done before…. I used two ribbons. I first adorned the tree with this buffalo check ribbon and then in between the ribbon I went back in with a burlap and red glitter ribbon.

Now at first with no ornaments I was on the fence of whether or not I liked the look but as I added more ornaments I realized that I did. Let me know in the comments what you think about two ribbons. Is it too much or just enough.

It’s Day 10 and we are sharing our Christmas Tree!

I love adding big flowers to my tree. I’ve had these for about 5 years and they still do a great job at creating a focal point on the tree so your eye knows where to go. It is the scale of the flower and the dimensions of the flower that does this.

Theme

Keeping with a theme is something I am good at. Elements for this tree are pinecones, birds, deers and the color red. Now I always love adding birds to my trees because it reminds me of the tree I grew up with. My parents had two doves holding rings that was given to them as a wedding gift. This is always at the top center of their Christmas tree.

Budget

Now each year I do tend to switch things up but I really don’t buy much to do this. I work with what I have. For instance adding the second ribbon this was a ribbon I had held on to from a previous Christmas tree. If I do purchase a few new ornaments it’s usually after Christmas when things go 90% off at the craft stores.

I just love owls in fact there was about a year that my nephew called me Auntie blue owl. I have a blue owl out on this sunporch and he always had to come in through the sunporch to say hello to the blue owl. He would even go home and talk about wanting to come back to see the owl. So if I didn’t already love owls before now they just have a special place in my heart.

The best part of having a second Christmas tree is pulling onto my street and seeing the sunporch glowing from the light of the tree and the paper stars. It just puts a smile on your face after a long day.

  1. I have two ribbons on my tree too. I think it looks wonderful on yours because the large burlap poinsettia with red trim ties the two together nicely. The eye is drawn right to it (at least in the photos anyway).

    1. Thank you Marie. The two ribbons was way out of my comfort zone but I wanted to switch things up. I am really loving it.

  2. Your tree is beautiful! I love buffalo check too and it’s taking over, but I’m okay with that. I like your ornaments and the two different colors of ribbon. Love it!
