DIY Kitchen Renovation

DIY Kitchen Renovation

It's time to reveal the full DIY kitchen renovation, finally! This has been a year in the making from painted cabinets, IKEA butcherblock countertops, a new stove, microwave, larger dishwasher, apron front sink, new Moen faucet, garbage disposal, adding crown molding and peel and stick glass tile backsplash. All of this was done on a budget and projects that I could do myself or reach out to friends and family for help. No contractors! It's about accessing your space, budget and your abilities. Renovations don't have to be intimidating when you plan your projects around what you can do or learn to do. Being a single homeowner doesn't mean I have to have a dated kitchen!

The kitchen renovation is in full swing here and today I am going to walk you guys through how to finish Ikea butcher block counter tops. Now what do I mean finish don't you just go to Ikea then install those counters? Well you could but chances are this time next year your counter tops would be full of stains and could have some water damage. To avoid this the best thing to do is to seal the counters with a spar varnish. In this case I used Helmsman to seal my Hammarp counters.

Fall Yard Clean Up

I cannot believe fall is in full swing and before we know it we will be buried in snow! Yes I said it the “S” word. Being from Massachusetts I know how bad the winters can get so I want to give my yard, that I’ve spent so much time on, a fighting chance this winter.  Fall prep is important maybe even more important than how you maintain your lawn in the spring and summer months.  Start the work now for a beautiful yard in the spring.

Whether it was in the Winter with the snow, in the Spring where everything started to bloom, the Summer when my outdoor projects were in full swing or this Fall learning how to prep for Winter.

I Bought a House Before I Turned 30!

I Bought a House Before I Turned 30!

Yes that's right... I bought a house before I turned 30 and on my own. I have been looking to buy a home for about a year. I looked in 2 states at over a hundred homes and lost a few along the way. A couple of years ago I read an article about millennials and how we were more likely to buy houses later in life because of how crippled we are in student debt. Right then I consciously made the decision that I wanted to buy a house before I turned 30 to break that stereotype along with a few other stereotypes about us.
