How to Install a Paver Patio

How to Install a Paver Patio

My paver patio is finally done and landscaped! I am so excited to show you the transformation. Less than a year after moving into my house I had some major plumbing issues which led to my back deck needing to be removed and my entire side lawn dug up to remove a clay sewer pipe that went to the street. Not only was the plumbing a large expense but it left me without an outdoor area to relax and entertain in.

DIY Kitchen Renovation

DIY Kitchen Renovation

It's time to reveal the full DIY kitchen renovation, finally! This has been a year in the making from painted cabinets, IKEA butcherblock countertops, a new stove, microwave, larger dishwasher, apron front sink, new Moen faucet, garbage disposal, adding crown molding and peel and stick glass tile backsplash. All of this was done on a budget and projects that I could do myself or reach out to friends and family for help. No contractors! It's about accessing your space, budget and your abilities. Renovations don't have to be intimidating when you plan your projects around what you can do or learn to do. Being a single homeowner doesn't mean I have to have a dated kitchen!

Adding crown molding to your kitchen cabinets.

We are in the home stretch of the renovation! Now I didn’t love how the cabinets didn’t go to the ceiling and I just couldn’t get over it. I know there was something that could be done but I also knew that I didn’t know how to do it myself and neither did my dad. So I headed over to the hardware store. Now I just happen to have one worker there that is my go to. He’s in school to be craftsman (not sure if that’s the right term) but he always seems to know the answers instead of looking at me like I have 3 heads.

DIY Wallpapered Drawers

DIY Wallpapered Drawers

Today the guest room is finally getting a little love. After almost a year of just having a bed in this room I picked up some unfinished pine night stands. I left them assembled in the room for a few months knowing I wanted to do something fun with a pop of color and maybe a texture.

Home for the Holidays: My first Christmas in my first home

Home for the Holidays: My first Christmas in my first home

This time last year I was getting ready to close on my house. I had the closing set for the 22nd and I moved in the day after Christmas. It was hard mentally to have had put up a Christmas tree only to take it down before Christmas had even happened. Your first year in a new place is always really exciting, because you get to figure out where everything should go. Finding the perfect spot for your tree, your stockings and your knick knacks.

I Bought a House Before I Turned 30!

I Bought a House Before I Turned 30!

Yes that's right... I bought a house before I turned 30 and on my own. I have been looking to buy a home for about a year. I looked in 2 states at over a hundred homes and lost a few along the way. A couple of years ago I read an article about millennials and how we were more likely to buy houses later in life because of how crippled we are in student debt. Right then I consciously made the decision that I wanted to buy a house before I turned 30 to break that stereotype along with a few other stereotypes about us.

The Search for Artwork for My Home at Minted.com

In the past few months I have moved into a new home and have increasingly been discouraged by the art work that I own from my old apartment. I think I am at a different place in my life than I was before so the art just does not seem right for the space at this time. Being a designer I am overly opinionated when it comes to art which is why my walls are still fairly blank after months of living here.

In the past I have used Minted for invitations for wedding and baby showers and I have always been extremely happy with the designs especially the print quality.

Holiday Home Tour

Holiday Home Tour

I wanted to invite you into my home this holiday season. See this is a special holiday season for me since this is my first year in my new (rented) home and my first year celebrating the season on my own. While I have lived on my own before it had been in grad school where I travelled home for the holidays and there was no real need to decorate. This year I was very excited to decorate but boy can it be overwhelming. It took me almost a month to pick out a fake Christmas tree, I started looking in early October!

Easy to Paint Mason Jar Vases

For me planning parties has always been about the details. Without the details there is just food and drinks. I always ask myself what will make this memorable? Recently I threw a Fall themed housewarming party tying in the theme with the colors purple and orange. This is also a great project to keep in mind when setting your table for Thanksgiving.

Fall Housewarming Party

Fall Housewarming Party

I have been in my house about three months and I can hardly believe it. With the weather starting to get cooler and winter just around the corner I knew October would be my last chance to have a housewarming party and to enjoy my back yard. I was so nervous all week. Just my luck that the week of my party was a Nor' Easter. But luckily the weather gods were on my side! It rained everyday this week but Saturday and my lawn was some how not a mud pit!

Since you guys couldn't make it I thought I would share the party on my blog ;)
